Diverse Communities

London is known as a diverse and welcoming community. The most recent census data shows that in 2001, 10.9% of London's population was comprised of visible minorities, up from 8.9% in 1996.

In 2002, the London CMA had a higher proportion of refugees (27%) than the Provincial average (9%). According to the London Cross Cultural Learner Centre, in the past four to five years, our community has seen refugee arrival numbers more than double.

A key recommendation of London's 2004 Creative Cities report was to create an environment where all citizens of London feel valued, included, empowered and recognized without fear of discrimination.

London strives to be a healthy community that is inclusive and welcoming irrespective of colour, creed, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, physical or mental disability.
